Overseas Applicants

Our Process

We understand that different people are at different stages of the relocation process ie some people may have only just started thinking about the idea whilst others have a flight booked in few month's time and want to move quickly to secure interviews or a role before they leave the UK. We are always happy to have a non-obligation chat with anyone and will of course work to each individual's own timeframes.

Here is a guide to how the international recruitment process works:
  1. Initial interview with one of our UK based consultants to discuss your background, what you are looking for and have a general chat about working in Australia.
  2. If we think that we may be able to help you, you will contacted by our Australian office who will provide you with more detailed information about the positions available that might match your requirements. Please be aware that due to the time difference, interviews will occur either early morning or late evening UK time.
  3. On agreement of companies, Barton Mills Recruitment will set up initial interviews. Most clients will want to organise a series of interviews with different members of their organisation via the phone and/or Skype/ video conference. Often our clients have representatives in the UK and in which case you may also have a face to face interview. If not, some clients may expect you to fly over final interviews.
  4. You will receive our full support at every stage of the recruitment process. This means full guidance and briefing on the role and company prior to your interviews as well as post Interview feedback every time.
  5. Finally, we will handle the offer negotiation and offer acceptance process to get you the best package that we can.

Can I get work in Australia while still in the UK?

Yes, this is possible. Many of our clients either have offices in the UK or will fly representatives over to the UK to interview. Where this is not possible, interviews will be done via video conference so that at least you can see your potential employers. In some cases clients are happy to conduct the entire interview process remotely and offer you a position before you leave the UK.

However, in our experience, we have found that candidates who are prepared to fly over to Australia for final stage interviews with a small number of companies have a much higher chance of making the right decision. Meeting potential managers and team members and actually seeing the working environment that you will be working in can often make or break a decision and may help avoid problems down the track This commitment and flexibility will also make you more attractive to prospective clients.
